Food and Fiber from Flax
Flax is grown in similar regions where oats and wheat grow. It has been considered as one of the earliest crops that farmers used to sustain a living. Flax is grown for two reasons – for its omega 3 flax seed and for its fiber. The omega 3 flax seed is a well known as source of many nutritional elements that are very beneficial to us. On the other hand, flax fiber has been used for clothing products even long before cotton was used as a primary fiber for creating inexpensive clothing.
Same as the reason why flax is grown, wholesale flaxseed is purchased to create food supplements and healthy food products, and to make clothes from flax fiber. These two purposes of flax come from its two major types. The yellow flax seed is the type used for food processing while the brown flax seed is used for clothing manufacture. But due to the dawn of cheaper sources of fiber, use of the fiber from brown flax seed slowly lost its prominence. At present, flax is mostly planted for its yellow type of flax seed. Since more people are gaining consciousness in the field of health and wellness, omega 3 flax seed is being highly patronized.
The omega 3 flax seed can be used for various meal serving. It is a nutty in taste which is perfect for vegetable salads and dips. Also, the yellow flax seed contains relatively the same amount of fiber as the brown flax seed that is why when processed into flax seed flour it can be a healthier substitute for baking flour, cake flour or pastry flour.
